One of the things I like to do in a new city is take a hop on hop off tour to get acquainted with a new city. We took the Big Bus tour that has two routes and about 20 stops between them.
There are so many things to do and see and so little time here that the Big Bus Tour gave us a chance to hear about each stop and then decide which ones to hop off and see.
I love to visit Palaces and I love Christmas. One of the first places we spent time at was the Schonbrunn Palace.
The schonbrunn was the summer palace for the Monarchy of the Habsburg dynasty.
They have the courtyard set for Christmas with a large tree a small Christmas market and groups singing carols.
a stop for a little potato pancake with sour cream and bacon, made for two people for sure.
Pretzels the size of a large dinner plate seem to be very popular here.
These are not just plain old pretzels there are many choice…so far I have held off, but there is still time to try one over the next 10 days.
Then it was off to one of the large and most popular Christmas Markets
The traditional Vienna Magic of Advent, the Rathausplatz becomes a shining fairytale land. The 150 or so sales booths at the Christmas market offer Christmas gifts, Christmas tree decorations, sweets and warming drinks. The trees of the surrounding City Hall park are festively decorated and radiate in a sea of lights. There are lots of offers here for children in particular, such as a carousel and craft fun in the Christmas Workshop.
